Writers strike enters its second weekThe effects of not having some of the most important people on set are already starting to show: the two biggest projects currently under construction — Marvel’s knife blade reboot and fifth season stranger things– put on ice (with many more movies and shows to come in a minute).
What is the strike about?
From the number of exploitative short-term contracts offered in the age of streaming, the authors are justifiably fed up with the low pay, low residuals, and threat of machine learning.
Posted on official twitter account. stranger things In the writer’s room, the Duffer brothers, creators of the series, wrote:
Duffers is here. Writing doesn’t end when shooting begins. While we’re excited to start production with our amazing cast and crew, this isn’t possible during the strike. We hope a fair deal is reached soon so we can all get back to work. Until then – again and again. #wgastrong
Without its writers or producers, production came to a standstill. Hell yes. Also, download tools are Marvel’s new knife blade closed movie andwhen the strike is over…production will resume”.
And these two are far from the only shows and movies to be affected. A ton of live TV, especially late-night comedy shows, has already gone dark. The Show With Jimmy Fallon, The Late Night With Seth Meyers, The Late Show With Stephen ColbertAnd Jimmy Kimmel Live! they all stopped shooting.
And while networks and studios may have trouble using material that has been written and filmed for a while, if the strike continues and that material dries up, they’re going to be in trouble. And even when the strike is over they Still because backlogs and rescheduling in production would be an absolute nightmare.
Of course, not every project and studio hits the pause button. HBOs game of Thrones spin off dragon house While Amazon’s second season is being filmed, it will continue filming without its screenwriters. Lord of the Rings: Rings of Power Disney and HBO are among the companies that order writers to return to work. while the second asks them to perform “unwritten” tasks.
The Writers Guild of America, the union that called the strike, calculates that it would cost Hollywood a total of $430 million a year to improve its members’ contracts. There are already predictions that this strike can make 2 billion dollars harm to the entertainment economy. This may seem like some easy sums, just pay these people what they are worth, but these strikes are never about money, they are control.
Solidarity with everyone on the strike line and good luck in the days/weeks/months ahead.
