While the Virtual Reality revolution may have begun for the PC master race, it’s still scary to think that for over 40 million more players the beauty of PlayStation VR looks set to change how we experience certain types of game forever. Despite it being now less than a month until launch, PlayStation has remained relatively quiet on the VR front, most likely due to scarcity of units. However that won’t stop us looking over about what excites us most about what we’re going to use it for on day one.

  1. 18 free experiences right out of the box

Pre-order Resident Evil 7

PlayStation VR players in North America will be treated to an abundance of free downloadable experiences, with 18 ready to download PlayStation VR demos acting as the best way to test your virtual reality limits whether it’s through taking to the track in Driveclub VR, thumping to the beat in Rez Infinite or getting to know the scary Baker family a little better in Resident Evil 7’s Lantern demo.

As it stands, it’s unknown whether or not the demos for each of these games are timed experiences that let you enjoy them within a certain period, or whether they are traditional demos that each give you a finely tuned slice. Needless to say, if you don’t fancy forking out much more cash after parting with $400 on day one, there’s plenty to be getting on with and tantalise your taste buds.

  1. Playing our favourite games on the cinema screen

If you’re one of the many people following all of the PlayStation VR news developments closely, no doubt one feature that’s caught your eye is the wall to wall ‘cinematic mode’ which lets you experience any game from your existing PS4 library as if you were at the movies. PlayStation VR’s cinematic mode has been reported to simulate a screen capable of going as big as 226 inches, and we can’t think of a better way to re-experience Nate Drake’s last adventure.

If 226 inches of wall to wall greatness seems a little bit too much for a day one outing, fear not! The virtual reality screen also will come in two other viewing sizes: 117 and 163 so you can find a size that’s best for you! We know how hard it can be to sometimes find a decent size screen in the house, so this nifty PlayStation VR offers a pretty cool solution.

  1. Be the Batman

Pre-order Batman: Arkham VR

Okay, so we realise this one might be cheating a little bit, but if there’s one paid PlayStation VR game we’re willing to give into  on day one that’s unavailable to experience from the previous demo we mentioned, it has to be Rocksteady’s Batman: Arkham VR. Need a reason? You get to be Batman, and that’s pretty much all there is to it. Not only this, but the Batman: Arkham VR experience will focus on a key element of the character not always present in other experiences, his detective side.

Batman: Arkham VR looks set to encapsulate everything that the future of virtual reality promises to be, to let us live out the impossible. Through what other means are we able to don the cape and mask and truly feel like a crime-fighting vigilante? We can’t think of one, and that’s why being the Batman will be top priority as soon as Playstation VR is finally in our hands.

So there you have it! Despite being quite a large financial investment PlayStation VR is aiming to revolutionise how console gamers experience video games well into the future, and the aforementioned experiences are only the beginning. What will you be doing on day one? Be sure to let us know!
