Yup, Raz and the rest of the psychic secret agents of
Psychonauts are heading to the PS4!

In a straight port (which is different from a full remaster), the original Psychonauts game is going to be released on the PS4 and set for release this Spring, with no solid date as of now. It will be rendered to 1080p and will feature trophy support.  Psychonauts is the latest of many re-releases from Double Fine Productions: so far we’ve been graced by fully remastered PS4 re-releases of classics like Grim Fandango and Day of the Tentacle. And now we’re going to be able to revisit young Raz’s journey to being a fully-fledged Psychonaut on the same platform.

For the unaware, Psychonauts places players in the shoes of aspiring young psychic Razputin (who will eventually come to be known as simply Raz) as he jumps hurdles to get initiated into an elite group of psychic agents, the eponymous Psychonauts. Throughout the game, he plunges into the minds of some of the most colourful and downright bizarre characters in gaming, unlocking deep, dark secrets and unravelling a conspiracy along the way.

While the original game for the PC, PS2 and Xbox didn’t exactly sell millions, it did gain a colossal cult following and was received with critical acclaim, with tons of praise for Schafer’s distinct brand of quirky humour and the  wonderfully trippy art direction. Double Fine Productions would later update and republish the game in 2011, far exceeding past sales.

Double Fine Productions also launched a crowdfunding campaign on Fig for a sequel late last year. With over 20,000 backers, the campaign for Psychonauts 2 was a huge success, hitting its goal and nearly making a jaw-dropping $4 million. We’re told Psychonauts 2 will be out in 2018 on the PS4, Xbox One and Windows PC, so keep on the lookout for that and make sure to check out the teaser at the end of this article.

Furthermore, Double Fine is also working on yet another Psychonauts title, Psychonauts in the Rhoombus of Ruin, slated for 2016 and available exclusively on the PlayStation VR.

So what do you think? Will you be getting the game when it comes out? Share your thoughts with us in the comments section and stay tuned for more updates as we get them!
