With the announcement of the Final Fantasy VII remake at last year’s E3 Convention, the concept of video game HD remakes/remasters has once again reared its head. Many gamers are talking about what games released on PC or console would do well as a PS4, Xbox One or PC HD remake. To shine a light on a few of these options, here is a list of 6 Video Game HD Remakes (not remasters) that we would enjoy playing today.

  1. Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem

Eternal Darkness: Sanity’s Requiem is a horror video game that many think of when any discussion on critically acclaimed, classic horror games takes place. When it released in 2002, it immediately garnered critical acclaim due to its masterful use of “sanity effects” designed to mess with not only the character in game, but the player as well. As you play in the dark of your room, you’d hear the sound of a spoon clattering against a sink, the sound of doors slamming shut, or worse. This bit of immersion added a psychological element to the already scary tale of the Roivas family.

  1. Metal Gear Solid 2: Sons of Liberty

Raiden’s original classic MGS adventure has garnered critical acclaim, and multiple re-releases. With the popularity of the Metal Gear Solid franchise (as well as Metal Gear Rising: Revengeance) it would only be smart to release an HD remake of the first adventure of Raiden, recreating this critically acclaimed stealth and tactical experience. Metal Gear Solid 2 also provides enhanced enemy AI (which could be further enhanced with modern technology) and a wide arrange of skills for players to employ. With new technologies and mechanics available, a new Metal Gear Solid 2 would result in the highest quality stealth mechanics.

  1. Xenogears

Xenogears was named the 16th best video game of all time by Famitsu in 2006, and with the popularity of both the Xenosaga and Xenoblade Chronicles series, it is past time to revisit where it all began. Xenogears received critical acclaim upon release, and the turn-based action RPG had the perfect balance of science fiction, spirituality, and psychology to bring the player a multi-layered plot and a satisfying RPG experience. After almost 20 years, I think it is high time that Xenogears was brought to the forefront of the gaming industry once again.
