10 Most Useless Pokémon Ever
Not counting the release of Pokémon Sun and Moon in November, there are 721 Pokémon in the world of Pokémon. With that many Pokémon in the Pokémon world, there are bound to be a few annoying and useless Pokémon. Here is a list of ten of the most useless Pokémon ever for me personally (and why they are so useless/annoying).
Abra is only annoying in that it is a pain to catch. Finding an Abra isn’t exactly difficult, but catching one before it teleports away can be frustratingly impossible if you aren’t lucky. The sad part about this is, Abra is extremely useful (as are its evolutions) and thus catching one without spending coins at the game corner or getting lucky in wonder trade can be highly frustrating.
Aside from the fact that Stunfisk looks like an obnoxious amalgamation between a Psyduck and a pancake, Stunfisk is also one of the most useless Pokémon and insanely annoying because it is considered a ground/electric Pokémon yet does not excel in either area, mostly being an average ground or electric Pokémon unless extensive time is put into making sure it excels in either element. The fact that Stunfisk doesn’t evolve also counts against it, preventing it from gaining any further skills beyond the 13-16 possible abilities it can learn without the use of TMs or HMs.
Zubat are most annoying Pokémon to fight, as their supersonic ability can repeatedly confuse your Pokémon, causing you to wipe if you are unlucky enough. The fact that Zubat are found in almost every cave (even in ones where other rare Pokémon spawn) also adds to their annoying factor as it makes things frustrating, especially in the larger caves.
While Patrat might be adorable, it only learns 5 skills that actually do damage. Most of them are normal type moves as well, with only one dark type skill in the mix. Patrat isn’t too bad for contests though, as it learns a lot of Tough skills, the problem mostly lies in its actual combat usage since there are plenty of other more useful Pokémon to fill your roster.
The problem with Luvdisc is that it is the only way to acquire heart scales, however if that wasn’t annoying enough, over half of Luvdisc’s learned abilities don’t even do any damage. Generation III Pokémon weren’t as imaginative, and yet Luvdisc tends to have very few redeeming qualities, as there is no evolution for it, so there is no real incentive to level it up either. If the picture above doesn’t shout out “I am the most useless Pokemon ever” then I don’t know anymore.
Despite having a starring role in the third Pokémon film, the mysterious Unown Pokémon is sadly not very useful. It only learns the skill Hidden Power, and most TMs and HMs are incompatible with it. Combining that with the fact that it does not have an evolution, and finding the entire alphabet is an exercise in frustration, leads many to understand that Unown is more trouble than it is truly worth.
Kakuna, like Metapod, suffers from what I like to call “Harden” syndrome; which is similar to an issue that presents with Magikarp. Most wild Metapod only have the skill harden, making it not only extremely annoying to cause one to faint, but also making it difficult to level one as it requires the use of either a TM, HM, or swapping the Pokémon out of battle to a Pokémon that does more damage. While Metapod evolves into a Butterfree, the Kakuna evolves into the less useful Beedrill instead.
While Beedrill looks cool, all of the skills it learns even up to level 45 have a low power, leaving Beedrill as a support Pokémon at the very best. Other bug Pokémon like Butterfree and Venomoth work well in this role, causing Beedrill to really be obsolete; Besides, in order to get Beedrill, you have to level up a Kakuna.
Honestly, Zigzagoon does have a few decent attacks for beginning players but what really makes Zigzagoon so frustrating is that they can be found EVERYWHERE. This useless Pokémon is found even in higher level areas where you are trying to catch better Pokémon, the occasional Zigzagoon will rear its obnoxious head and interrupt your Pokémon catching spree.
Magikarp is my least favorite Pokémon for one particular reason. In order to acquire one of my all time favorites Gyarados, you have to level one of these splashing, terrible excuses for a Pokémon until level 20, which usually requires you to swap this useless Pokémon in battle, then immediately back out of battle so that they get experience (or use EXP share).
The fact that most Magikarp start with no skill other than the most useless Pokemon move ever seen (Splash) makes him one of the weakest Pokemon you can capture. Players have to wait until level 15 for Magikarp to learn tackle makes Magikarp the most useless Pokemon, as that only leaves 5 levels before Magikarp evolves into Gyarados.
There you have it, ten Pokémon that for various reasons are either useless or annoying. We all have our own favorite Pokémon, but with 721 Pokémon (and more coming with Pokémon Sun and Moon) it’s hard to not pick up on the ones that may not have been created equally with the many fan favorites out there. Who do you think are the most useless Pokémon ever? Let us know in the comments!
