Star Wars Battlefront FREE DLC For January, February, AND March
EA has revealed what is in store for future updates to their multiplayer online shooter, Star Wars Battlefront. With its November 2015 release, many players felt that the experience was lacklustre. With only four planets, limited weapon and map variety, and the absence of a single player campaign, the game felt like a shell of what it could potentially be. It has also received a large amount of criticism due to its $50 season pass available at launch. Coupled with its initial $60 retail release, many players thought the price tag was too high to justify the small amount of content offered. To most fans’ disappointment, EA also revealed that there would be no content from The Force Awakens. However, many fans speculate that there may still be a possibility of content from the upcoming Rogue One anthology film in 2017.
Aside from the free Battle of Jakku update released on December 8th, EA has remained quiet about Battlefront’s future until now. EA’s official site has revealed their “road map” for future content in 2016 and early 2017. All players will be getting a free content update which includes new maps for multiplayer and mission modes, private matches, and new hero outfits. For those who own the season pass, new maps such as Bespin, Jabba’s Palace, and the Death Star will also be available.
As of January 27th, free content is available for all Star Wars Battlefront players. This includes:
- A reworked version of the Tatooine Survival map, which is now called Raider Camp. Previously only available for co-op, it will now support multiplayer play across game modes such as Droid Run, Blast, Drop Zone, Hero Hunt, and Heroes vs. Villains.
- New Hoth-themed outfits for Han Solo and Luke Skywalker featuring their original costumes as seen in The Empire Strikes Back. Luke is even seen wielding his original blue lightsaber.
- The ability to create private matches.
- Daily challenges and community events, which yield an opportunity to earn unlocks and credits faster.
- Overall balancing and tweaking to weapons and multiplayer modes.
More free content will be released in February and March. February sees a new Survival mission on Hoth and a new Hoth map for larger game modes like Supremacy, Walker Assault, Fighter Squadron, and Turning Point.
March will feature a new Endor map for Walker Assault, Supremacy, and Turning Point. An additional Tatooine Survival map will also be included.
Season pass details are available on EA’s official site. Major expansion packs are scheduled for March 2016, Summer 2016, Fall 2016, and early 2017 so players will have no lack of content to look forward to. EA will continue working to make Star Wars Battlefront better. A statement on their official site says, “As we said back in November, the release of Star Wars Battlefront was just the beginning. Our team has been listening to your feedback and building a calendar of new content and tuning changes we will be making to the game throughout 2016.” With these announcements being only a first look into what the season pass has to offer, the game’s future looks to be bright with continuous support throughout the year.
